Acoustic sounding
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-003256
A remote sensing technique that uses sound waves to probe the lower atmosphere, primarily to measure wind profiles and atmospheric stability. It involves emitting acoustic pulses and analyzing the backscattered echoes, which are affected by temperature and wind fluctuations. This method, often implemented with a sodar (sound detection and ranging) system, provides continuous vertical profiles of atmospheric conditions.
