Acoustic thermometer
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-003257
An instrument that measures air temperature by determining the speed of sound through a specific path in the atmosphere. The speed of sound is directly related to the square root of the absolute temperature of the air. This method offers a non-contact way to measure temperature, often used in conjunction with acoustic anemometers to derive virtual temperature.
