Acoustic tomography

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-003258

A technique that reconstructs a two- or three-dimensional image of atmospheric properties, such as temperature or wind fields, by analyzing the travel times of sound waves along multiple paths. Sound sources and receivers are strategically placed, and variations in sound speed reveal the spatial distribution of atmospheric conditions. This method provides spatially averaged measurements over a defined area.
