Acoustic resonance

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-003251

The phenomenon where an atmospheric system or cavity vibrates with maximum amplitude at specific frequencies when excited by an external sound source. This occurs when the frequency of the external force matches a natural vibrational frequency of the system. In meteorology, this concept can be relevant to understanding how certain atmospheric structures might amplify sound waves.
