Equatorial Countercurrent

An eastward-flowing ocean current located near the equator, situated between the westward-flowing North and South Equatorial Currents. This current is driven by a combination of wind stress patterns and pressure gradients, often appearing as a narrow, swift flow. In the Pacific Ocean, it is particularly strong and well-defined.
