Equatorial Undercurrent

A narrow, powerful, eastward-flowing subsurface current found along the equator in the Pacific, Atlantic, and Indian Oceans. It flows in the opposite direction to the westward-flowing surface currents. In the Pacific, this current, also known as the Cromwell Current, is centered at a depth of about 100 meters and can reach speeds of 1.5 meters per second.
