North Equatorial Countercurrent

An eastward-flowing ocean current located between the westward-flowing North Equatorial Current and South Equatorial Current in the Atlantic, Pacific, and Indian Oceans. It is driven by the convergence of trade winds and the resulting pressure gradient. This current is particularly well-developed in the Pacific Ocean, where it is also known as the Pacific Equatorial Countercurrent.
