Countercurrent

A flow that moves in an opposite direction to another adjacent flow. This configuration is common in atmospheric and oceanic systems where distinct layers or regions of fluid move in opposing directions. An example is the equatorial undercurrent in the ocean, which flows eastward beneath the westward-flowing surface current.
