Inertial oscillation

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006521

A periodic motion of a fluid parcel in a rotating system, driven solely by the Coriolis force, resulting in a circular path. These oscillations are commonly observed in the ocean's mixed layer following strong wind events or in the atmosphere. The period of an inertial oscillation is inversely proportional to the sine of the latitude.
