Undamped oscillation

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009875

A periodic motion or fluctuation in which the amplitude remains constant over time, without any loss of energy. In atmospheric science, this describes an idealized system where frictional or dissipative forces are absent. Real atmospheric oscillations, such as planetary waves, are always subject to some degree of damping.
