Unconfined aquifer

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009874

A water-bearing geological formation that is not overlain by an impermeable layer, allowing its upper surface, the water table, to fluctuate freely with atmospheric pressure and recharge. The water table in an unconfined aquifer is directly connected to the surface. This type of aquifer is readily recharged by precipitation and surface water bodies.
