Perched stream
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-007844
A stream whose bed is elevated above the surrounding floodplain or land surface, often due to the deposition of sediment within its channel. This elevation can occur when the stream carries a heavy sediment load and builds up its banks faster than the adjacent land erodes. Perched streams are common in arid and semi-arid regions where flash floods deposit large amounts of material.
