Static level

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009215

The equilibrium level in the atmosphere where a rising air parcel, having reached its level of free convection, would eventually cease to rise due to buoyancy forces. At this level, the parcel's temperature becomes equal to or colder than the ambient environmental temperature. It marks the approximate top of a convective cloud or thunderstorm.
