Confined groundwater
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004592
An accumulation of groundwater that is trapped between two relatively impermeable layers of rock or sediment, known as aquitards or aquicludes. The water in a confined aquifer is under pressure greater than atmospheric pressure. Because of this pressure, water in a well drilled into a confined aquifer will rise above the top of the aquifer, a condition that creates an artesian well.
