Piezometric surface

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-007945

An imaginary surface representing the level to which water would rise in a series of piezometers installed in a confined aquifer. It indicates the potentiometric surface of the groundwater, showing the hydraulic head across a region. The slope of the piezometric surface determines the direction of groundwater flow, which is perpendicular to the contour lines of equal head.
