Artesian basin

A large geological structure consisting of one or more artesian aquifers, where groundwater is confined under pressure by overlying impermeable rock layers. These basins are typically formed by synclinal structures or tilted rock formations that allow water to infiltrate at higher elevations and become pressurized. The Great Artesian Basin in Australia is one of the largest examples globally.
