Stratospheric oscillation

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009301

A periodic variation in atmospheric parameters, such as wind direction and temperature, within the stratosphere. The most prominent example is the Quasi-Biennial Oscillation (QBO), which involves an alternating pattern of easterly and westerly winds in the tropical stratosphere. These oscillations can influence global weather patterns and climate.
