Biennial wind oscillation

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-003904

A quasi-periodic variation in atmospheric winds, particularly in the stratosphere, with a cycle length of approximately two years. This oscillation involves alternating easterly and westerly wind regimes that propagate downwards through the tropical stratosphere. The Quasi-Biennial Oscillation (QBO) is a prominent example, influencing global weather patterns and stratospheric chemistry.
