Inertial flow
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006516
Fluid motion where the dominant forces are inertia and the Coriolis force, with pressure gradients and friction playing a minor role. This type of flow often manifests as oscillations or circular paths, particularly in the ocean or atmosphere after an initial impulse. The characteristic timescale for such motion is the inertial period.
