Level of neutral buoyancy
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006929
The altitude in the atmosphere where a rising or sinking air parcel reaches the same temperature and density as its surrounding environment. At this level, the parcel loses its buoyancy and its vertical motion tends to cease or slow significantly. For a rising convective parcel, it often marks the top of the convective updraft.
