Neutral surfaces
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-007524
Surfaces in the ocean or atmosphere along which a fluid parcel can move without experiencing any buoyancy force. These surfaces are defined by a combination of temperature, salinity, and pressure such that the density of the parcel matches the density of its surroundings at all points along the path. They are used to trace the movement of water masses in the ocean.
