Level of no motion
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006930
A theoretical depth in the ocean where horizontal water movement is assumed to be zero, used as a reference for calculating geostrophic currents. This level is often chosen based on observations or assumptions about the deep ocean circulation. The choice of this reference level significantly impacts the calculated absolute velocities of ocean currents.
