Limit of convection

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006964

The altitude in the atmosphere where an ascending parcel of air, having risen from a lower level, becomes colder and therefore denser than its surroundings. At this point, the parcel loses its buoyancy and vertical motion ceases. This level is often associated with the tropopause or the top of a convective cloud.
