Penetrative convection

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-007835

Convective motion that extends beyond the layer where it is primarily generated, intruding into an adjacent, more stable layer of the atmosphere. This process can transport heat, moisture, and momentum across stable layers, modifying their properties. It is often observed when thermals from the boundary layer rise into the lower free troposphere.
