Surface wave
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-010800
A wave that propagates along the interface between two media with different properties, such as the boundary between the atmosphere and the ocean or a stable layer within the atmosphere. In meteorology, this includes gravity waves that travel along temperature inversions or frontal surfaces. These waves can influence the vertical transport of momentum and energy, affecting local weather conditions and sometimes triggering convection.
