Slantwise convection
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008934
A form of atmospheric convection that occurs along tilted surfaces of constant equivalent potential temperature, rather than purely vertical. This process is often associated with frontal zones and can lead to the formation of banded precipitation. It is a mechanism for releasing conditional instability in a saturated atmosphere, contributing to the development of mesoscale convective systems.
