Conditional instability of the second kind
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004580
A type of atmospheric instability that arises from a positive feedback loop between latent heat release from cumulus convection and the convergence of moisture in the boundary layer. This interaction can lead to the growth of mesoscale convective systems, even in environments that are conditionally stable for individual parcels. It is often associated with the development of tropical cyclones and organized squall lines.
