Slantwise convective available potential energy

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008935

A measure of the potential energy available for slantwise convection, which occurs when air parcels are displaced along sloping surfaces of constant equivalent potential temperature. This energy drives organized bands of precipitation and can be a factor in severe weather development. It is calculated by integrating the buoyancy of a parcel lifted along an isentropic surface.
