Downdraft convective available potential energy
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005112
A measure of the potential energy available for driving a downdraft in a convective storm. It represents the buoyant energy released as a parcel of air descends from a higher level to the surface, becoming colder and denser than its environment. High values indicate the potential for strong, damaging downdrafts and microbursts.
