Surface wave
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-003703
A type of seismic wave that travels along the surface of the Earth or along an interface, rather than through the Earth's interior. In land seismic surveys, these waves, known as ground roll, are a form of strong, low-frequency noise that can obscure reflections from deeper targets. Surface waves, which include Love waves and Rayleigh waves, have lower velocities and larger amplitudes than the body waves used for imaging.
