Surface wave

1. A wave that travels along, or near to, the surface; its motion dropping off rapidly with distance from it. A distinct seismic mode from the body waves, P- and S.
2. A wave generated by energy input from sources such as wind, landslides, tidal action, or current action, and that moves along the surface of the ocean.
