SH-wave
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-003393
A type of seismic shear wave, or S-wave, in which rock particles move horizontally and perpendicular to the direction of wave propagation. SH-waves are body waves that travel through the Earth's interior but cannot propagate through fluids such as water, gas, or molten rock. This property distinguishes them from SV-waves, which are also shear waves but have particle motion in the vertical plane containing the ray path.
