Tangential wave
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-003758
A type of shear wave where the particle motion is perpendicular to the direction of wave propagation and also perpendicular to the plane containing the ray path. This is also known as an SH-wave (horizontally polarized shear wave). Tangential waves are used in seismic exploration to derive information about anisotropic rock properties and fracture orientations.
