SV-wave
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-003714
A shear wave (S-wave) in which the particle motion is perpendicular to the direction of wave propagation and lies in the vertical plane containing the ray path. These waves travel through solids but not liquids or gases, and their velocity is slower than that of P-waves. SV-waves are used in seismic exploration to derive rock properties such as shear modulus.
