Compressional wave
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000789
A type of seismic wave where particle motion is parallel to the direction of wave propagation, causing alternating compressions and rarefactions in the medium. These waves, also known as P-waves, are the fastest seismic waves and can travel through solids, liquids, and gases. Their velocity is dependent on the bulk modulus and density of the material.
