Entrainment zone
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-000871
A region at the boundary of a cloud or plume where ambient environmental air is actively mixed into the cloud or plume. This zone is characterized by turbulent mixing and gradients in thermodynamic properties between the cloud and its surroundings. The depth of this zone can vary from a few meters to hundreds of meters depending on atmospheric conditions.
A shallow region at the top of a convective boundary layer where fluid is entrained into the growing boundary layer from the overlying fluid by the collapse of rising convective plumes or bubbles.
