Entrainment velocity

The speed at which ambient fluid is drawn into and mixed with a turbulent flow, such as a convective updraft. It represents the rate of mass transfer across the boundary of the turbulent region. This velocity is often proportional to the characteristic velocity of the turbulent flow itself.
