Deardorff velocity

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004877

A characteristic velocity scale used in atmospheric boundary layer meteorology, representing the convective velocity scale. It is derived from the surface sensible heat flux, the buoyancy parameter, and the boundary layer height. This velocity provides a measure of the strength of turbulent eddies driven by buoyancy in the convective boundary layer, typically expressed in meters per second.
