Buoyancy flux
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004083
The rate at which buoyant energy is transferred vertically through a fluid, typically in the atmospheric boundary layer. It represents the turbulent transport of heat and moisture that contributes to the upward or downward movement of air parcels. A positive buoyancy flux indicates upward motion and atmospheric instability, while a negative flux suggests downward motion and stability.
