Flux richardson number
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005660
A dimensionless parameter that quantifies the ratio of the rate of buoyant production or consumption of turbulent kinetic energy to the rate of shear production of turbulent kinetic energy. It is used to assess the stability of a stratified fluid, such as the atmosphere or ocean, and the likelihood of turbulence development or suppression. Values greater than 0.25 generally indicate stable conditions where turbulence is suppressed.
