Convective Richardson number

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004678

A dimensionless parameter used to assess the likelihood of convective initiation and the strength of convection, relating the buoyant energy available to the kinetic energy required to overcome a capping inversion. It is a ratio of Convective Available Potential Energy (CAPE) to Convective Inhibition (CIN). Lower values suggest a greater potential for deep, vigorous convection.
