Critical richardson number
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004765
A dimensionless parameter that indicates the threshold for the onset of turbulence in a stratified fluid, representing the ratio of buoyancy forces to shear forces. When the Richardson number falls below a critical value, typically around 0.25, shear-induced turbulence is likely to develop. This number is used to assess atmospheric stability and mixing.
