Critical tidal level
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004766
A specific elevation within the intertidal zone where the duration of continuous submergence or exposure to air changes rapidly with a small change in height. These levels are determined by the amplitudes and phases of the main diurnal and semidiurnal tidal constituents. They represent major ecological boundaries for coastal organisms whose survival depends on specific periods of wetting and drying.
