Diurnal tide

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005081

A tidal pattern characterized by a single high tide and a single low tide occurring approximately once every lunar day (about 24 hours and 50 minutes). This type of tide is common in certain regions, such as the Gulf of Mexico, where geographical features amplify specific tidal constituents. It contrasts with semidiurnal tides, which have two high and two low tides per lunar day.
