Thermal tide

A periodic atmospheric oscillation driven by the diurnal heating and cooling of the Earth's atmosphere by solar radiation. These tides manifest as small but measurable fluctuations in atmospheric pressure, temperature, and wind. The largest thermal tide is the semidiurnal component, with a period of 12 hours.
