Radiational tide

A periodic variation in atmospheric pressure and wind caused by the daily cycle of solar heating and cooling. This thermal tide is distinct from gravitational tides caused by the moon and sun. It is most pronounced in the tropics, with a dominant diurnal and semi-diurnal component.
