Solar atmospheric tide

Periodic oscillations in atmospheric pressure, temperature, and wind that are driven by the diurnal and semi-diurnal heating of the atmosphere by solar radiation. These tides are most pronounced in the upper atmosphere but can be detected at the surface. The dominant component is the semi-diurnal tide, with a period of 12 hours.
