Ionospheric tides

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006655

Periodic oscillations in the ionosphere's parameters, such as electron density, temperature, and winds, driven by atmospheric tides propagating upwards from the lower atmosphere. These tides are primarily generated by solar heating and gravitational forces from the sun and moon. Ionospheric tides exhibit diurnal, semi-diurnal, and ter-diurnal periods, influencing the global structure and dynamics of the ionosphere.
