Traveling ionospheric disturbances

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009777

Wave-like perturbations in the electron density of the ionosphere that propagate horizontally over long distances. These disturbances are often generated by atmospheric gravity waves originating in the lower atmosphere, such as those from severe weather or auroral activity. They can affect radio communication and satellite navigation systems.
