Ionospheric recorder

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006654

An instrument, also known as an ionosonde, that transmits radio pulses vertically into the ionosphere and records the time delay and amplitude of the reflected signals. By varying the frequency of the transmitted pulses, it measures the virtual height of the ionospheric layers. This data is used to create ionograms, providing continuous monitoring of ionospheric conditions.
